US polls: discontent over cost of living & Greenland acquisition

Date:

Affordability concerns in the US

New polls show many Americans are unhappy about the cost of living. A Reuters/Ipsos survey found that only around 32% approve of Trump’s handling of cost-of-living issues, including inflation and rising prices. A majority say prices are going in the wrong direction.

Another poll by Reuters/Ipsos highlights broader discontent. It shows a strong public sense that the national economy and cost of living are on the wrong track.

These findings suggest that many US voters view affordability as a key concern heading into the 2026 political cycle.

Little support for Greenland acquisition

Support for Trump’s bid to acquire Greenland appears very low. A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll shows only about 17–20% of Americans back the idea of the US pursuing control of Greenland. Most respondents oppose the move or are unsure.

Polling also indicates that few Americans, including Republicans, endorse the use of military force to take Greenland. Opposition to such action runs high across party lines.

Political tensions at Davos

These polls come as Trump attends the World Economic Forum in Davos, where tensions have risen with European leaders over his Greenland plans. European leaders have condemned his approach, calling it “new colonialism,” while Canada has publicly opposed US tariff threats tied to the dispute.

Trump has defended his Greenland strategy, calling the territory vital to US and NATO security. He also says he will address affordability issues during his Davos speech.
