Date:

An EU funds investigation involving independent MEP Fidias Panayiotou has been launched by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO), following a complaint alleging possible misuse of European Union funds.

The investigation is at an early stage. Panayiotou was contacted several weeks ago and asked to submit his position as part of preliminary inquiries, according to available information.

EPPO inquiry at an early stage

As reported by Sigma journalist Christoforos Christofi from Strasbourg, authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the individuals involved or the nature of the alleged conduct. The process is expected to continue if the claims are deemed substantiated.

No additional information has been released by the EPPO, in line with its standard practice of limiting public comment while investigations are ongoing.

Panayiotou: No official notice received

Panayiotou stated that he has not received any formal notification from the competent authorities regarding a complaint against him. He added that all actions related to EU funding are carried out in coordination with the European Parliament.

The MEP also linked the timing of the investigation to upcoming parliamentary elections and internal party processes concerning candidate selection. He said he would provide further updates to the public through social media in the coming days.
