The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) has declined to comment on the case involving independent MEP Fidias Panayiotou, citing its standing policy of not commenting on ongoing investigations in order to safeguard procedures.

In response to a query by the Cyprus News Agency, a spokesperson for the European Public Prosecutor’s Office said that, as a general rule, the EPPO does not comment on current investigations and does not publicly confirm which cases it is handling.

EPPO cites protection of investigations

“Generally speaking, the European Public Prosecutor’s Office does not comment on ongoing investigations, nor do we publicly confirm which cases we are dealing with,” the spokesperson said. “This is done in order not to jeopardise possible ongoing proceedings and their outcome.”

The spokesperson added that any information made public in relation to investigations in progress, including the Fidias case, is disclosed only at the initiative of the EPPO itself.

No further details were provided regarding the case, in line with the organisation’s established communication policy.
