Tsikkini’s response to Karsera: “Intimidation and silencing”

Date:

The letter from lawyers representing Philippas Karsera, wife of the President, demanding deletion and cessation of online posts by Nikoletta Tsikkini constitutes an attempt to silence and intimidate a critical voice, stated her lawyer Pambos Ioannidis to CNA. He noted that a response letter is being prepared for dispatch within days.

Ioannidis said they will address the January 15, 2026 letter received by his client, providing detailed explanations rather than the complainant’s vague claims.

Selective targeting questioned

He described the move as incomprehensible, noting that on January 11 Karsera announced seeking legal advice due to anxiety and family distress from social media posts following a government corruption video release.

Yet, the letter by Karsera targets only Tsikkini for old posts, not recent events sparking her resignation as Chair of the Independent Social Support Body’s Administrative Committee or the President’s intent to dissolve it.

The most recent cited post dates to June 2025, despite many others across Cyprus.

Response and potential lawsuit

Ioannidis will argue in the letter that this constitutes impermissible silencing of criticism against Karsera and the President. He awaits any counter-response and stands ready to counter any lawsuit filed.
