The Holy Synod has given approval for composing special hymns referencing the Cyprus issue, adopting Archbishop’s proposal.
Archimandrite George Christodoulou stated after the session that members unanimously endorsed creating supplicatory hymns directly tied to the national issue. These hymns will integrate into Church liturgical life.
Liturgical integration plan
The new Cyprus hymns will add to the three stanzas of the Good Friday liturgy. The Holy Synod’s decision proved unanimous on this matter.
Theologian voices strong objection
Theologian Theodoros Kyriakou commented on “Protoselido,” arguing the move effectively weakens the Good Friday liturgy. He remarked it suggests existing praises fall short, despite their Resurrection character, now to be supplemented by Cyprus issue hymns. Kyriakou warned of major public backlash, questioning what more will be heard.
