MEP calls for probe into Cyprus leak, Russian oligarch ties

Date:

Italian Renew Europe MEP Sandro Gozi brought European dimensions to the leaked video case via a platform X post, labelling it a “particularly serious matter.”

He cites allegations of cash exchanges for political favours, attempts to exempt Russian businessman Andrei Kosogov from EU sanctions, and a €75,000 “donation” from a pharmaceutical firm.

Kosogov sits at the revelations’ centre, with reported efforts to remove him from the EU sanctions regime imposed on Russia-linked persons and entities post-Ukraine invasion.

Russian oligarchs and pharma links

Gozi also references the €75,000 donation from a pharma company tied to sanctioned Russian oligarchs Mikhail Fridman and Petr Aven, both on EU lists.

Commission intervention requested

Following ALMA party’s stance, Gozi submitted an official intervention to the Commission seeking clarifications and scrutiny.

The Commission must examine potential breaches of EU sanctions rules, transparency, and funding regulations.

ALMA joined the European Democratic Party and Renew Europe, Gozi’s group.
