Lakotrypis statement on leaked footage – Denies video claims

Date:

In response to a video circulated today from a fake profile on platform X, where George Lakotrypis appears discussing campaign funding methods with alleged investors for the President’s pre-election campaign, he denied its content. He described it as deliberate distortion and a targeted attack.

In his written statement, Lakotrypis notes the video is evidently montaged, with fragmented and altered statements falsely attributed to him. The aim, he claims, is to harm the Republic of Cyprus, the President, and himself personally.

Timing raises suspicions

The statement highlights that the video’s publication one day after the Cyprus EU Council Presidency launch is no coincidence. This, according to Lakotrypis, strengthens suspicions of a deliberate and organized action.

He also announces an official complaint filed with the Nicosia Cybercrime Unit (TAE), where he will submit all material and evidence available for investigation and accountability.

Full statement from Lakotrypis

“Regarding a video circulated today from a fake profile on platform X, in which I am presented discussing with alleged investors ways to fund the President’s pre-election campaign, I wish to state the following:

It is obvious from the video that the statements attributed to me have been montaged to distort the context of the discussions, with the ultimate aim to harm our country, the President himself, and me personally.

It is no coincidence that the video leak occurred one day after the Cyprus EU Council Presidency inauguration ceremony.

I have already filed a complaint with the Nicosia TAE, to which I will deliver all the evidence I have at my disposal.”
