Low pressure system moves in
A low pressure system is expected to affect Cyprus from this afternoon, according to the Cyprus Meteorological Service. Isolated rainfall, storms and strong winds are forecast over the coming days, while light dust will remain suspended in the atmosphere until the evening.
Today’s conditions
Today, the weather will be mainly cloudy with medium and high cloud cover. Winds will blow mainly from the northeast to southeast, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort.
The sea will be calm to slightly rough.
Temperatures will rise to around 19°C inland, approximately 21°C along the coast and about 14°C in the higher mountainous areas.
Tonight: rain, thunderstorms and mountain snow
Tonight, the weather will become cloudy with rainfall, while isolated thunderstorms cannot be ruled out, initially affecting western areas and gradually spreading to the rest of the island. Snow is expected in the higher mountainous regions.
Winds will turn southwesterly to northwesterly, moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort, and locally very strong at 6 Beaufort in windward areas.
The sea will soon become rough.
Temperatures will drop to around 9°C inland and on the southern and eastern coasts, about 12°C on the remaining coastal areas, and around 4°C in the higher mountains.
Friday to Sunday outlook
From Friday through Sunday, the Cyprus weather forecast points to periods of mainly cloudy conditions with local rainfall, isolated thunderstorms that may be accompanied by hail, and snowfall in the higher mountainous areas.
Winds will locally be very strong to gale-force, with a temporary weakening expected on Saturday. Temperatures will fall noticeably on Friday, rise slightly on Saturday and show no significant change on Sunday, remaining close to seasonal averages.
