US Representatives Thomas Massie and Ro Khanna threatened legal action against Attorney General Pam Bondi after Friday’s partial release of Epstein files fell short of November law requirements signed by President Trump.
Massie called it flouting the law’s spirit and letter, suggesting inherent contempt proceedings against Bondi – the quickest path to justice for victims without courts.
Bipartisan contempt push
Khanna detailed building bipartisan coalition for daily fines on Bondi until full release. Inherent contempt, unused nearly a century, needs only House support unlike impeachment.
DOJ insists compliance, with Bondi claiming “most transparent administration in history.” Deputy AG Todd Blanche dismissed threats on NBC: “Not even a little bit. Bring it on.”
Redactions and missing files
Partial release included heavy redactions, withheld info, sparking survivor anger. DOJ cited million+ pages with victim data, promising rolling releases. Some Friday files removed over victim concerns, including Trump image later reinstated.
Senator Tim Kaine called contempt premature, preferring appropriations leverage for compliance.
