Tonight in Nicosia: launch of “50 Years Later: Cyprus 15/7/1974”

Date:

Tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the Journalists’ House in Nicosia, journalist Nikos Papanastasiou presents his major new two-volume work “50 Years Later: Cyprus 15/7/1974”.

The 1,000-plus-page book will be presented by journalists Philippos Stylianou and Lazaros Mavros.

Writing in Simerini, Savvas Iakovides describes the work:

“The author compiles hundreds of personal testimonies and interviews, statements and references – including material from the Cyprus File – collected over many years of research. He includes voices from supporters of Makarios, Grivas and EOKA B’, members of EDEK and the Lyssarides groups, AKEL members and the Enotiki faction.

At the same time, N. Papanastasiou records testimonies from Junta officers who took part in the coup, Junta officials, Greek politicians and church figures. He also documents personal accounts from leading EOKA B’ members and from Nikos Sampson, who assumed the role of ‘president’ of the coup government – and under what circumstances.”

The event is open to the public.
