Anti-Corruption Authority clears Yiannis Misirlis

Date:

The Cyprus Anti-Corruption Authority fully cleared businessman Yiannis Misirlis in its report. It found no evidence to support allegations made by AKEL MP Christos Christofides.

The complaint had two parts:

  1. Donations from nine foreign investors to DISY before or after they received Cypriot citizenship through the Golden Passport scheme
  2. The naturalisation of Russian billionaire and former senator Victor Pichugov

No link between donations and passports

The Authority concluded that no evidence exists of any exchange of favours between party donations and government decisions on citizenship applications.

Pichugov property purchase examined

The second claim concerned Pichugov’s Promsvyazbank buying a €4.7 million Limassol property built by Y.A.M. Imperio Enterprises LTD, a company linked to Misirlis (son-in-law of former President Nicos Anastasiades).

The report states clearly:

“There is no testimony showing that the sale took place because of a promise or provision of present or future advantage to public officials or officers.”

The Authority ruled that neither the property purchase nor the naturalisation of individuals connected to Promsvyazbank shows any indication of corruption offences.
