Ukraine agrees to Trump’s peace plan, with only minor details left to settle
Ukraine has agreed to the peace proposal mediated by the Trump administration, with only a few small details still needing adjustment, according to U.S. media reports citing an American official.
Washington sent the initial 28-point peace proposal to Kyiv last week, and officials from both countries drafted a counter-proposal during emergency talks in Geneva over the weekend.
European allies, who presented their own counter-proposal to the 28-point plan, rushed to hold several meetings in recent days as they try to keep pace with the negotiations.
These developments follow reports that American and Russian officials—including U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll—met yesterday for talks in Abu Dhabi.
Ukrainian official: Kyiv supports the essence of the agreement
A Ukrainian official told Reuters that Kyiv supports the essence of the peace deal after last weekend’s U.S.–Ukraine talks in Geneva and the negotiations that followed.
The official added that Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky will discuss some of the sensitive outstanding issues.
White House: “A few delicate but manageable details remain”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt posted an update on X about the peace-plan negotiations.
Her full statement:
“Last week, the United States made major progress toward a peace agreement by bringing both Ukraine and Russia to the table. A few delicate—but not insurmountable—details still need to be resolved, and they will require further discussions between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States.”
Sir Keir Starmer: “Most of the plan, according to Volodymyr, can be accepted”
Starmer said Ukraine has suggested “some constructive changes” to the plan.
“I believe we are moving in a positive direction, and today’s indications show that, largely, most of the plan—according to Volodymyr—can be accepted,” Starmer said.
He noted that the alliance must prepare the planning and funding for Ukraine’s future armed forces so the country can defend itself.
“I urge colleagues on tonight’s call to finalize their national commitments, because we need the strongest capability and the strongest plans on the table,” he added.
