Limassol Municipality to hold “Society for All in a City for All” conference on Thursday, October 30

The Limassol Municipality is organizing a one-day conference titled “Society for All in a City for All” as part of its effort to redesign its social policy. The conference will take place on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the “Panos Solomonides” Municipal Cultural Centre, commencing at 8:30 a.m.

The event will feature a special thematic unit titled “How the New European Bauhaus (NEB) Transforms Social Policy,” highlighting the crucial link between space, daily life, and the quality of life for citizens.

The organization of this conference reflects the Limassol Municipality’s new strategic direction, which is adopting the principles of the New European Bauhaus (NEB): inclusivity, sustainability, and aesthetics as a methodology for policy and design.

The NEB introduces a new way of thinking and acting, in which social policies are co-designed with citizens, respond directly to their needs, and effectively enhance the experience of city living. The aim is to integrate this approach into the core of the Limassol Municipality’s Social Policy, which is being developed around key pillars such as: accessibility, inclusion, third age (senior citizens), gender-sensitive design, and Persons with a Migratory Background.

The one-day conference is structured into two main parts:

  • Part A – Open to the Public: Features presentations and real-world examples from Cyprus and Europe, demonstrating how the NEB is translated into practice through social and spatial interventions.
  • Part B – Participatory Planning Workshops: Citizens, stakeholders, and experts will jointly formulate proposals and solutions. The first workshop will focus on the co-design of a model building and public space to serve as a pilot action linking social policy with urban planning and the daily lives of residents.

In a statement, Limassol Mayor Yiannis Armeftis noted: “The organization of this conference signals the start of a process that focuses on the values we want to build upon: participation, cooperation, dialogue, and synthesis. We will all work together in the same direction to make our city better.”
