A 68-year-old man, identified as Nikos Paris from Anogyra, lost his life in a fatal crash in Limassol on Wednesday evening. The collision occurred around 6:30pm on the Avdimou–Anogyra road, when his small van collided head-on with a saloon car driven by a 57-year-old fellow villager.
Speaking at the scene, Limassol Traffic Department chief Marios Charalambous said the fatal crash in Limassol happened under circumstances still under investigation. “From the violent collision, the 68-year-old was killed instantly, while the second driver was injured and is undergoing medical examinations at Limassol General Hospital,” he said.
Mr Charalambous added that the Fire Service was called to the scene to free the victim from the wreckage of his vehicle.
According to police, the 68-year-old was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. When asked which vehicle entered the opposite lane, Mr Charalambous said there were indications, but investigations would continue with the first light of day.
The Avdimou–Anogyra road in the Limassol district remains closed on Thursday morning, 23 October, to allow for ongoing investigations into the incident. Drivers are advised to use the Avdimou–Agios Thomas–Anogyra route instead.
