Fire near Limassol-Paphos tunnel

Date:

A fire that broke out near the Limassol-Paphos tunnel on Thursday morning was swiftly extinguished, authorities confirmed.

According to Fire Service spokesperson Koulla Messaritou, the incident occurred at around 8:05 a.m. on the Limassol–Paphos motorway, close to the tunnel area within the jurisdiction of the British Military Bases. The Monovolikos Fire Station responded to provide assistance to the Bases’ fire crews already on site.

The blaze involved a pile of rubbish and discarded materials, which was quickly brought under control by the British Military Bases Fire Service. No injuries or property damage were reported, and traffic in the area was not significantly affected.

Firefighters remained at the scene for a short period to ensure there was no risk of re-ignition. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but initial indications suggest it may have started accidentally.
