Cyprus summer cinema brings fresh air and film

Date:

Summer cinema is back across Cyprus, offering cool nights, good films, and affordable fun in cities from Nicosia to the coast.

In the capital, the beloved Summer Screenings Marathon continues at the historic “Konstandia” open-air cinema. Co-organised by Theatre Ena and the Deputy Ministry of Culture, the event draws large nightly crowds with a varied lineup of Greek, Cypriot, and international films. Screenings run until 7 September, Wednesday to Sunday at 21:00, with tickets at just €5.

Larnaca joins in for the first time with its Larnaca Film Festival, running 28–31 August, featuring European films and local short productions. Screenings start at 20:30 with free entry and post-film discussions.

The films to be screened include There’s Still Tomorrow (C’è ancora domani) by Paola Cortellesi, My Brother’s Orchestra (En Fanfare) by Emmanuel Courcol, and Excavations (Skammata) by Danae Stylianou, along with a selection of short films by Cypriot creators.

Specifically, the short films to be screened are Amalgamation by Sylvia Nicolaidou and Nicolas Iordanou, 74 by Charalambos Margaritis, Anna by Spyros Charalambous, Underground by Yiannis Christoforou, The Hunt by Sholeh Zahraei and Kamil Saldun, and The Woman with the Parrots by Michalis Kalopaidis.

In Limassol and Ayia Napa, “Starlit Screens” are lighting up beaches with Disney favourites and family films like Coda through 24 August. Tickets cost €12 and include popcorn and water, with family bundles available.

Meanwhile, Paphos hosts a seaside screening of Night at the Museum on 21 August at Venus Bleu beach, with a €5 minimum donation supporting charity. Polis Chrysochous also held three beachside screenings earlier this summer.
