Trump gives Russia 10 days to reach Ukraine ceasefire

Date:

US President Donald Trump has issued a Trump Russia sanctions ultimatum, giving Moscow 10 days to agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine or face new tariffs and economic measures.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One as he departed the UK, Trump said that if the deadline passes without progress, he will announce sanctions on Russia.

Asked whether he was concerned about the impact on global oil markets, Trump said he was not, adding that the US would increase domestic production to offset any effects.

Commenting on the UK government’s plan to recognise a Palestinian state in September-dependent on Israel addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and meeting specific conditions- Trump said the matter had not been discussed during his meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

“You reward Hamas if you do that. I don’t think they should be rewarded,” Trump stated.

The US President said Washington has funded food aid to Palestinians in Gaza and wants to ensure it is used properly. “I want to make sure the money is spent smartly and wisely, and that the food is distributed appropriately,” he said.

Turning to US–China relations, Trump said he expects to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping before the end of the year, without providing further details.

He also said he is considering not attending the G20 summit in South Africa this November. “I will probably send someone else, because I have had a lot of problems with South Africa. They have some very bad policies,” Trump said.
