Van Nistelrooy leaves Manchester United

Date:

Ruud van Nistelrooy will not remain part of Manchester United’s new coaching team, despite the wishes of the club’s players for him to retain his role in the football department.

The management of the “Red Devils” announced that the Dutchman, a former star player for the club, will depart, along with three other members of United’s previous coaching staff: René Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, and Pieter Morel.

“Ruud is and always will be a legend of Manchester United,” read United’s statement, adding: “We are grateful for his contributions and the approach he took throughout his time with the club. He will always be warmly welcomed at Old Trafford.”

Van Nistelrooy served as interim manager for four matches, securing two victories over Leicester (one in the Premier League and one in the League Cup), a win over PAOK in the Europa League’s League Phase, and a draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

The Dutch coach commented that he helped restore stability and trust within the club, which now sits 13th in the league table with 15 points from 11 matches, only four points behind third place.

“There’s a foundation in the last four games where there was strong unity, good spirit, and players pushing for results. We secured four positive results, and that was very important to me,” Van Nistelrooy said following Sunday’s (10/11) Premier League win over Leicester.
