New information has emerged about the elderly couple who lost their lives in the large wildfire in the Limassol district, according to RIK correspondent Sotiroula Christofidou.

She reported that:

“The couple were at their holiday home in Monagri and tried to flee last night to escape the flames.
However, as soon as they reached the main Limassol–Platres road, they were trapped by the fire.”

According to the same report, the couple reported missing are believed to be a 77-year-old woman and her 84-year-old husband.

Police statement

Regarding the discovery of charred remains on the Monagri–Alassa road, police have confirmed that a post-mortem forensic examination has been completed.

However, because the remains are unidentifiable, scientific methods will be used to confirm the victims’ identities.

It is noted that the vehicle in which the remains were found belongs to the 77-year-old woman who had previously been reported missing.
