The Mourtzoukou infant murder confession has sent shockwaves through Greece. Eirini Mourtzoukou has admitted to killing four infants: her two young daughters, her baby sister, and the child of a close friend. Her statement was given to the Homicide Division of the Organised Crime Unit, just before her transfer to Patras on Wednesday morning.
The confession came as part of questioning in an ongoing investigation, but according to police sources, Mourtzoukou had already shown signs of wanting to speak. “I wanted to get it out of me,” she reportedly told investigators. With her head bowed and in tears, she admitted to killing even her baby sister at the age of 14.
She described moments of rage and emotional disturbance: “My mind would go blank… something would take over me when I argued with my mother or thought about the men my friends were with. I felt a compulsion to harm the children.”
Though the confession occurred during a statement related to her sister’s child, Mourtzoukou ultimately confessed to four murders in total, a revelation now being called the Mourtzoukou infant murder confession by Greek media and authorities.
She is currently charged with serial homicide with intent, both completed and attempted. The known victims include:
- Her friend’s 6-month-old baby, who died in Achaia in February 2021 while under Mourtzoukou’s care. The coroner listed interstitial pneumonia as the cause of death.
- Her own daughter, just 19 days old, who died in June 2022, again with interstitial pneumonia cited.
- A second daughter, aged two months, who died of cardiac arrest in 2023.
In addition, she faces charges for attempted murder in 2020, when a friend accused her of trying to strangle her.
Mourtzoukou’s name has also surfaced in two more suspicious deaths: her 15-month-old nephew, Panagiotakis, who died in August 2024 in Amaliada, and the 2014 death of her baby sister. In televised interviews, her mother directly accused her of being the killer in both cases.
Authorities report that over 80 witness statements reference Mourtzoukou being present during the final hours of these children’s lives. With the new confession on record, prosecutors are re-examining all relevant files and forensic reports.
