A Cyprus heatwave has officially begun, with temperatures expected to reach 41°C in inland areas. The Meteorological Service has issued a yellow heat warning from 12:00 to 16:00 today, as unusually high temperatures continue to affect the region.
The Cyprus heatwave is pushing temperatures well above average for July. Inland areas will see highs around 41°C, while eastern and southern coastal regions can expect 36°C. Western and northern coasts will reach 33°C, and higher mountain areas will hit 32°C.
Today’s weather will remain mostly clear, with light south-easterly to south-westerly winds (3 Beaufort) shifting to south-westerly to north-westerly by the afternoon. Winds may strengthen to 4 or even 5 Beaufort along windward coasts. The sea will be slightly to moderately rough.
Tonight will also be mostly clear. Winds will blow north-westerly, light to moderate (3–4 Beaufort), and temperatures will drop to 25°C inland, 22°C on the coasts, and 19°C in the mountains.
Looking ahead, the Cyprus heatwave is expected to persist through Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with continued sunny skies and no significant change in temperature. Conditions will remain hotter than the seasonal average.
Residents are advised to take precautions against heat-related illness and limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours.
