Yellow warning reissued as Cyprus nears 41°C

Date:

A yellow warning for extreme high temperatures has been reissued for today (Friday, 27 June), with the temperature expected to reach 41°C in inland areas, according to the Cyprus Department of Meteorology.

The warning, which has been in place since earlier this week, remains in effect between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., as a seasonal low-pressure system and warm air mass continue to influence the region. The forecast indicates clear skies, moderate winds, and elevated temperatures across the island.

Inland areas will bear the brunt of the heat, while coastal regions are also expected to swelter:

  • 41°C expected inland
  • 35°C in southeastern and eastern coastal areas
  • 33°C on the southwest, west, and north coasts
  • 32°C in the higher mountains

Winds will shift from light, variable breezes in the morning to southwesterly to northwesterly winds by the afternoon, with southern coastal gusts reaching 4–5 Beaufort. Seas will remain calm to slightly rough.

Tonight will stay mostly clear, though patchy fog or low cloud may form near the eastern and southern coasts by dawn. Overnight lows will drop to around 22°C in most areas and 20°C in mountainous regions.

The weekend will continue mostly sunny, with increased cloud cover in the mountains during the afternoon. On Monday, localised showers or isolated storms may appear, particularly in highland areas. Temperatures will remain above seasonal averages until Sunday, then dip to more typical levels on Monday.
