Cyprus weather: 39°C and rising this weekend

Date:

Cyprus weather is heating up, with temperatures expected to reach 39°C today in inland areas, according to the official forecast. The seasonal low-pressure system affecting the region is bringing mostly clear skies, high heat, and light to moderate winds.

In more detail, today’s weather will remain mostly clear across the island. Winds will blow southwesterly to northwesterly at 3 to 4 Beaufort, reaching 4 to 5 in the south during the afternoon. The sea will gradually become slightly rough. Temperatures are forecast to hit 39°C inland, 31°C on the western coast, around 34°C on other coastal areas, and 30°C in the mountains.

Tonight, skies will remain mostly clear. Patchy fog or low cloud is likely to form locally in the early hours of the morning. Winds will weaken to 3 Beaufort and the sea will stay slightly rough. Overnight temperatures will drop to around 22°C inland and on the coast, and 18°C in the mountains.

Looking ahead to the weekend and Monday, the weather in Cyprus will continue to be mostly clear, though cloud cover is expected to increase during the midday hours. Isolated showers may occur, mainly in mountainous areas on Sunday and Monday.

Saturday’s temperatures will remain high, staying well above average for this time of year. A gradual drop is expected on Sunday and Monday, but conditions will remain warm and summery.
