Rhodes girl drowned in hotel pool, business owner arrested

Date:

A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Rhodes on Monday afternoon, where a Rhodes girl drowned in a hotel pool in the Ialysos area. The victim was a three-year-old girl of Greek origin, according to ERT South Aegean.

Local newspaper Rodiaki reports the child was found unresponsive in the water, and emergency services (EKAB) arrived quickly on the scene. Paramedics carried out prolonged resuscitation efforts before rushing the child to Rhodes General Hospital.

Despite the medical team’s readiness, the Rhodes girl drowned, and doctors were unable to revive her.

The business owner was arrested and later released on the orders of the public prosecutor. A full autopsy has been ordered, and the legal process will proceed once the investigation and case file are complete.

Drownings remain a tragic but frequent occurrence across Greece during the summer months, particularly among children and tourists. Authorities regularly warn business owners and pool operators to ensure strict compliance with safety standards, including proper fencing, signage, and lifeguard supervision. The investigation into this latest incident will examine whether all required measures were in place at the time.
