Violent attack in Paphos a “death appointment”

A violent attack in Paphos unfolded on Monday night, around 8:30pm, in a field near the Dasoudi area of Paphos, opposite Evagoras Pallikarides Primary School. Authorities believe it was a premeditated “death appointment” between foreign nationals of Arab descent.

According to Sigma reporter Marios Ignatiou, a group of five Syrians were attacked by roughly twenty compatriots, allegedly due to personal and professional disputes.

The attackers were reportedly armed with knives, bats, crowbars, sledgehammers and other construction tools, used with intent to cause serious harm. At least one sharp weapon was confirmed to have been used.

Police officers from Paphos CID responded immediately after receiving a report at the central operations centre. Upon arrival, they found five injured individuals.

  • One young man had a stab wound to the left shoulder blade, underwent surgery, and remains hospitalised.
  • A second victim sustained a skull fracture and is under medical observation.
  • A third suffered a fractured radius near the thumb.
  • Two others sustained multiple bone fractures and injuries to various parts of the body.

Of the five victims:

  • Two remain hospitalised.
  • Two were treated and discharged.
  • The fifth, with minor injuries, was referred for follow-up examinations.

Police are now investigating a number of serious offences, including:

  • Attempted murder
  • Conspiracy to commit a felony
  • Grievous bodily harm
  • Possession of a knife
  • Weapons possession with intent to cause terror
  • Malicious damage
  • Common assault
  • Public affray

Three suspects, aged 22, 30, and 33, are currently wanted. The five injured men are aged 21, 23, 26, and two are 33.

The scene was sealed off by police and investigations are ongoing at pace.
