The Holy Synod has decided to remove Metropolitan Tychikos from his post as Bishop of Paphos, following complaints about his conduct that were brought before the Church’s top body.
Speaking after an extraordinary session of the Synod, the Chief Secretary of the Archdiocese, Archimandrite Georgios Christodoulou, said the Synod — chaired by Archbishop Georgios — had reviewed the accusations and reached a unanimous decision.
Tychikos will remain a bishop within the Church of Cyprus and a member of the Holy Synod, but is now officially at the Church’s disposal and will be reassigned in due course.
“He will be given a new title and position by the Holy Synod,” Christodoulou said. “As of today, the Archbishop takes over as caretaker of the Holy Metropolis of Paphos.”
A more detailed statement is expected to be issued by the Church at a later time.
