Starlink satellites light up Cyprus night sky

Date:

A striking display of Starlink satellites passing over Cyprus lit up social media last night, as viewers shared images of the symmetrical trail moving across the island’s night sky.

The phenomenon, often referred to as a “satellite parade”, involved dozens of satellites moving in sequence- part of Elon Musk’s ambitious Starlink project to bring global satellite internet coverage.

The satellites were launched on 16 May by SpaceX using a Falcon 9 rocket from California. It marked the 59th launch of 2025, adding another 26 units to the rapidly expanding Starlink constellation.

The rocket successfully completed both take-off and landing phases, further reinforcing SpaceX’s record for reusable launches. Starlink now comprises nearly 7,500 active satellites and continues to grow, aiming to provide internet access even in the world’s most remote regions.

Residents of Cyprus have increasingly caught sight of the satellites during recent launches- and last night’s clear skies offered a particularly vivid view.
