Follow up to: Two arrested over Limassol murder of 45-year-old man
New details have emerged in the murder of Yiannos Argyrou, 45, who was found stabbed to death in a Limassol apartment building garage on Sunday. A 52-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman remain in custody following an eight-day detention order issued by the Limassol District Court.
The court heard that the 52-year-old suspect, arrested in a local café, had visible bloodstains on his clothing and was found in possession of a folding knife and drug paraphernalia. Witnesses at the café reported that the man appeared agitated and allegedly confessed to the killing, explaining his motives.
Police told the court that the victim was discovered by his mother after failing to return from a walk he had planned with the suspect on Saturday night. A mobile phone and items suggesting drug use were found at the scene.
The 47-year-old woman was arrested based on witness testimony placing her at the garage with the suspect at the time. She confirmed she had been there to use drugs but claimed Argyrou was alive when she left. She later said the male suspect had admitted to the murder.
Investigators have gathered CCTV footage tracking the suspect’s vehicle to and from the scene, and the car was later seized outside the café in Agios Athanasios.
The court heard that police still need to collect around 35 witness statements and conduct two evidence searches, one of which is believed to contain key forensic material. The post-mortem examination on Argyrou’s body is ongoing.
