Easter 2025 price check: What’s on the table this year?

Prices for the Easter table are reported to be increased, according to data published by the Consumer Protection Service in the Easter Price Observatory on Wednesday.

According to an estimate by the Service, the total cost for a sample table for 8 people amounts to €184.21 this year, compared to €177.46 in 2024, with the largest increases recorded in vegetables and meats. Prices for eggs have also risen, while reductions are recorded in oils and traditional Easter breads.

Detailed breakdown:

  • The price for one kilo of lamb or goat has risen by 8.34% this year, with the average price at €13.46.
  • Beef has seen a larger increase of 9.64%, with an average price of €13.50.
  • Pork chops are up by 5.88%, now costing €6.25, while chicken breast is up 4.14% at €8.67.

Vegetables show the steepest increases:

  • Greenhouse cucumbers have jumped 194.63%, reaching €2.97 this year from €1.01 last year.
  • Field cucumbers show a similar increase of 169.53%, priced now at €3.29 per kilo.
  • Bunch greens are up by 20%, and fresh potatoes by 27.64%.

Smaller increases are seen in flour and eggs:

  • Farina flour prices are up 5.62%, and village-style flour by 5.68%.
  • All-purpose flour, however, has dropped by 3%.
  • A dozen eggs are up 5.38%, now costing an average of €3.05.
  • Cheese for flaounes has seen a slight increase of 2.09%.

Significant price drops are recorded in oils:

  • Both olive oil and sunflower oil prices have dropped by 39%.
  • Olive oil averages €9.12 per litre, and sunflower oil is around €6.82 for three litres.

The price of charcoal remains stable at €6.19.

Easter delicacies:

Prices for Easter delicacies have remained more or less stable:

  • Savoury flaounes show a minimal increase of 0.05%, priced at €13.17 per kilo.
  • Raisin flaounes are up 2.56%, at €13.37.
  • Large Easter breads (tsourekia) have dropped by 6.22%, now averaging €4.98.
  • A slight increase of 5.6% is seen in large white bread.

Prices for large chocolate Easter eggs vary greatly, ranging from €6.91 to €13.60.

Data collection and clarification:

Prices were collected on 14 April 2025. For fresh meats, data were gathered from 86 sales points, including large and small supermarkets and neighbourhood butchers. For Easter delicacies, prices were recorded from 66 points of sale, including bakeries and supermarkets across all districts.

The Consumer Protection Service clarifies that Price Observatories are prepared solely for the purpose of assisting/informing consumers in general and do not constitute advice.
