5 year prison sentence for 24-year-old found smuggling migrants

The Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca has sentenced a 24-year-old man to five years in prison in connection with the smuggling of undocumented migrants.

The offences occurred on 13 April, 2024, in the Famagusta District, and included:

  • Transporting people by sea in an overloaded vessel
  • Assisting an irregular migrant to enter the Republic of Cyprus
  • Participation in migrant smuggling
  • Involvement in an organised criminal group
