SIGMA celebrates its 30th anniversary today! That’s 360 months, 1,565 weeks, 10,957 days, 262,980 hours, and 15,778,800 minutes! That same year – 30 years ago – Jacques Chirac was elected President of France, the DVD – an advanced data storage disc – was announced for the first time, Tansu Çiller formed a government in Turkey, Sony released its first-ever PlayStation, crowds queued at cinemas to watch Braveheart, and on the radio, hits included “Panselinos” by Haris Alexiou, “Dreamer” by Livin’ Joy, and “Gangsta’s Paradise” by Coolio – an anthem for an entire rebellious generation.
SIGMA began broadcasting to viewers in 1995, on a Monday, at 5:30 pm, with the show KOPIASTE (=welcome), presented by Roulla Georgiadou and Zacharias Filippides. At 8:30 pm, the station aired its first primetime news programme, presented by journalist Antigoni Louka. Right after the news, the action film First Blood starring Sylvester Stallone was broadcast.
So, 30 years of SIGMA. 30 years of private television. A lot has changed in the TV landscape since then. One thing, however, has remained the same: the station’s commitment to delivering a diverse and high-quality programme to its viewers, grounded in the pillars of genuine entertainment and meaningful information. Because for 30 years, we’ve been creating moments we live for…!!!!
