Shock and revulsion are caused by a new, unprecedented case of domestic violence and sexual abuse and exploitation of 5 children, some of them minors, by their own parents.
The nightmarish things the children lived through at the hands of their parents cannot be described in words. Among them, the use of physical violence, forced labour, and sexual abuse. The alleged perpetrators are the parents, aged 48 and 45, who were arrested and placed in custody.
The thread of this unprecedented case began to unravel when one of the underage children confided the torment they were experiencing at home, together with their siblings, to a teacher, who, in immediate coordination with the school, informed the police, who also promptly began investigating the case. Video-recorded statements have already been taken from the children and are being evaluated. In fact, in a statement given by one of the daughters of the family, who is now an adult, she said that she was sexually abused from her childhood, with the knowledge of her mother.
Among other things, the children admitted that they were forced from a young age to work hard on livestock premises and in agricultural fields, while many times, when the 48-year-old believed they were not obeying him, he subjected them to degrading acts, the details of which will not be mentioned.
According to information, no one realised the nightmare the children were living through.
The two alleged perpetrators were brought in the morning before the Larnaca District Court, where a case was filed against them before the Criminal Court. A request was made for them to remain in custody until the start of their trial.
The Police’s request was accepted, and both will remain in custody until the start of the trial, which has been scheduled for 5 May.
