Larnaca hosts 9th CapTech EnE meeting of Eu defence agency

Representatives from more than 17 Ministries of Defence of European Union countries, the European Defence Agency (EDA), the European Union Military Staff, the Defence Industry of Cyprus and European countries and academia, participated in the 9th EDA CapTech Energy & Environment (CapTech EnE) Meeting that was held in Larnaca from 25 to 27 February.

According to a press release by the Ministry of Defence, the meeting, hosted by the Ministry, was attended by more than 60 industry experts.

In her welcoming speech, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Anna Aristotelous, referred to the policy of the National Guard’s green camps, saying that they constitute a model for innovation in Europe.

She stressed the need to align the needs of the European Union, the Ministries of Defence and the armed forces, with non military technological innovations. She also said that thematic issues concerning the energy and environment sectors will be part of the priorities of the Ministry of Defence during the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026.

The press release says that  the conference focused on the challenges, technological developments and strategic planning of the European defence sector in energy and environmental issues as well as on the integration of defence requirements into technological developments, underlying the contribution of industry in finding solutions and in particular in achieving energy efficiency, resilience and sustainability in the defence sector.

The three-day meeting included discussions and updates on CapTec EnE projects and actions, on emerging technologies, strategic research planning, industrial cooperation as well as discussions on the research sector on energy production, management, distribution and storage systems.
