13 minors hospitalised after halloween party in Limassol

Date:

Thirteen teenagers were taken to hospital after a Halloween party in Limassol where alcohol was reportedly consumed by minors aged 15, 16 and 17, prompting a police investigation.

Limassol police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the event, while organisers and other individuals who may be involved are expected to face questioning.

Speaking on the television programme Mesimeri kai Kati, Limassol Assistant Police Director Lefteris Kyriakou confirmed that authorities were aware of the incident and had already begun investigating.

Police have identified the 13 minors who were transferred to different hospitals for first aid after experiencing health problems believed to be linked to alcohol consumption.

Parents allegedly told no alcohol would be served

As part of the investigation, police have already taken statements from the teenagers’ parents and are examining the circumstances under which the party was organised and alcohol was made available to underage guests.

Kyriakou said one important aspect of the investigation was that parents had reportedly been informed that the event would take place at a different venue and that no alcoholic drinks would be available.

According to information gathered so far, the party was initially planned for another location, while organisers had assured parents that alcohol would not be served.

“However, as it later emerged, alcoholic drinks were available and had been given to minors, which is not permitted,” Kyriakou said.

Police investigating organisers’ responsibility

Authorities are continuing to take statements and collect evidence to establish who was responsible for organising the party and for the presence and distribution of alcohol to minors.

Kyriakou said that, once the investigation is completed, anyone found to bear responsibility will be brought before justice.

The incident came to light following a serious complaint posted by a member of the public on social media. The complaint alleged that a party involving minors had taken place at a well-known entertainment venue in Limassol, where alcohol was reportedly consumed excessively, resulting in several children requiring hospital treatment.
