Mitsotakis on Bloomberg TV: EU should move from ‘words to action’

Date:

The European Union should “move from words to action” on defense spending and joint financing is becoming part of the conversation for how to defend the bloc’s interests, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Thursday in an interview with Bloomberg news agency.

European leaders were blindsided by US President Donald Trump’s early moves to put in motion discussions with Russia aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, but without Kyiv or Europe at the table. This has left officials on the continent struggling to figure out a way to influence the unfolding events and make sure an eventual deal doesn’t sacrifice the security of Europe and Ukraine.

Regarding the situation in Santorini, Mitsotakis noted that Greece is a safe country for tourists to visit, downplaying concerns that recent seismic activity on the island of Santorini will worsen.

“No one can predict the future, but we are cautiously optimistic about what is happening on Santorini and hopefully things will go according to plan and will return to a normal state relatively soon,” the premier said in a Bloomberg TV interview.
