Greek-American Congresswoman voices strong support for Cyprus’ reunification

Date:

“Turkey’s 1974 military invasion of Cyprus resulted in death, displacement, and desecration”, Greek-American Republican Congresswoman, Nicole Malliotakis told to the Cyprus News Agency. She referred to the bipartisan resolution she signed and introduced in the House of Representatives on the Cyprus issue, expressing her strong support for the Republic of Cyprus.

“Greek Cypriots have had their land illegally occupied for 50 years and we will not stop our quest to see the island nation reunited, homes, churches and land returned to its rightful owners, and withdrawal of all Turkish military forces” she said.

A bipartisan resolution was introduced in the House of Representatives by Nicole Malliotakis, Chris Pappas, Gus Bilirakis and Dina Titus to highlight the Cyprus issue ahead of Trump’s return to the White House.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results. The latest round of negotiations, in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana ended inconclusively.
