A 99-year-old British woman has made history by becoming the oldest female wing walker in the world, completing the daring aerial stunt just weeks before her 100th birthday.
Helga Duffy, who lives in a care home in Wiltshire, England, was inspired to take on the challenge after seeing a news report about the previous record holder, 97-year-old Betty Bromage.
Duffy received an official Guinness World Records certificate for her achievement and raised money for charity.
99-year-old takes to the skies
On 16 October 2026, Duffy was strapped to the upper wing of a small aircraft during a flight at RFC Rendcomb airfield in Gloucestershire, England.
She completed the stunt at the age of 99 years and 21 days, setting a new Guinness World Record as the oldest female wing walker.
The flight also raised funds for Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance, a charity providing emergency medical services.
What is wing walking?
Wing walking is an extreme aerial activity in which a person is secured to the wing of an aircraft while it is in flight.
Aircraft used for the stunt typically fly at low altitudes and speeds of between 130 and 210 kilometres per hour. Participants are exposed to strong winds, G-forces and engine noise while enjoying an unobstructed panoramic view.
Despite the risks involved, Duffy said she was not frightened during the experience because she was far too excited.
A challenge inspired by a record holder
Duffy decided to attempt the feat after watching footage of Betty Bromage, who previously held the record after completing the same stunt at the age of 97.
Her achievement has now earned her a place in Guinness World Records, while the fundraising effort has given the milestone a charitable purpose.
