54-year-old prisoner convicted of murder dies in hospital

A prisoner death was recorded on Wednesday evening (29 April), when a 54-year-old foreign national died at the Nicosia General Hospital.

The man had been held at the Central Prisons on remand in connection with a premeditated murder case linked to an incident in Paphos in August 2025, where a 34-year-old woman lost her life.

Recent surgery and medical care

The inmate had been hospitalised in recent days following a surgical procedure. Medical teams monitored his condition continuously while he received ongoing treatment and nursing care.

Authorities confirmed that the individual remained under supervision throughout his hospital stay. The case is now being handled under standard procedures following the incident.

Procedures underway

The Department of Prisons has informed the deceased’s relatives and expressed its condolences. Officials are continuing all required procedures in line with protocol after the prisoner’s death.
