A 37-year-old man was arrested at Larnaca Airport in the early hours of Thursday under a court warrant in connection with alleged offences including theft, obtaining property by false pretences, money laundering and other related crimes.
The suspect had previously been arrested in the UK under a European Arrest Warrant issued by Cypriot authorities before being returned to Cyprus.
Twenty cases under investigation
Police are investigating 20 cases linked to the 37-year-old, involving offences allegedly committed between 2022 and 2023 in Limassol and Nicosia.
According to investigators, the suspect is believed to have obtained money and vehicles with a combined value of €827,400.
Police allege that he posed as an importer of vehicles from abroad and accepted payments from people interested in purchasing cars. However, the vehicles were allegedly never imported.
Court appearance expected
The 37-year-old remains in custody and is expected to appear before the Limassol District Court on Thursday morning, where police will seek a remand order.
The Limassol Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is continuing its investigations.
