“365 SGC Run Walk” event raises funds for two wheelchairs

Date:

The annual “365 Run Walk” event, organised by the 365 SGC Foundation on Sunday, 15 December, at the Limassol seafront, raised funds to purchase two wheelchairs for people with disabilities. The event aimed to promote awareness and empathy, encouraging inclusivity in sports for people with disabilities.

According to the foundation, the event, now in its third year, was held as part of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, with the support of the Youth Department of the Cyprus Red Cross, Cyprus Olympians-KESOΑ, Limassol Municipality and its Sports Office, TEPAK, the Scouts of Limassol, Limassol Cycling Club, the Cyprus Sports Organisation (KOA), and the Athletic Association of the Cyprus Police.

The event, included in the “Lemesia” sports calendar, featured a 10 km run, a 3.65 km walk or run, and a 500 m children’s race. It also allowed four individuals with disabilities to participate.

Limassol Mayor Yannis Armeftis, who initiated the 10 km race, said in a brief address that the race symbolises acceptance and inclusion, striving for a city for everyone. Amathus Mayor Kyriakos Xydias, who started the 3.65 km race, highlighted to participants that their efforts support the goal of ensuring accessibility for people with disabilities.

The event concluded with awards for the top three men and women in both the 10 km and 3.65 km races. Proceeds from the event will fund the purchase of two new wheelchairs, enabling individuals with disabilities to participate in races and training. Three wheelchairs have already been purchased through the foundation’s initiatives.
