Family, friends and the wider community gather today for the Pantelis Georgiou funeral after the sudden death of the 33-year-old, who collapsed at a gym in Paphos on Monday.
Funeral details announced
In a public message, his family expressed deep sorrow over the unexpected loss of their beloved Pantelis Georgiou, aged 33, from Aradippou.
They described him as a cherished son, brother and friend whose kindness, warm smile and vibrant spirit will remain forever in their hearts. His passing leaves an irreplaceable void for family, relatives and friends.
The funeral service takes place on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, at 15:00 at the Church of Apostle Loukas in Aradippou, followed by burial at Aradippou cemetery.
The family will receive condolences at the church from 14:30 and has asked for donations to support the family instead of wreaths.
Cause of death under investigation
Forensic pathologists Orthodoxos Orthodoxou and Angeliki Papetta carried out the post-mortem examination. Police said histopathological tests on samples from the body will determine the exact cause of death.
Authorities responded on Monday afternoon when the young man lost consciousness at a gym in Paphos. First responders provided first aid at the scene before an ambulance transferred him to the Accident and Emergency Department of Paphos General Hospital.
Doctors, rescuers and nursing staff attempted to save him, but he died shortly afterwards. Police investigators ruled out criminal activity.
Tribute from Swimming Federation
In a social media statement, the Cyprus Swimming Federation expressed profound sadness over the sudden loss of Pantelis Georgiou, who served as a water polo secretariat official.
The federation said people knew him for the kindness of his soul, his warm smile and his lively presence – qualities that will remain engraved in the memory and hearts of all who knew him.
They confirmed the details of the Pantelis Georgiou funeral and said they will always remember him with love.
