Pafos FC reach League Phase of Champions League after holding Red Star Belgrade to a 1-1 draw at a sold-out Alphamega Stadium. Despite falling behind in the 60th minute to a goal by Ivanić, the Cypriot side equalised late through a powerful header by Zaza, securing a golden qualification and becoming only the third Cypriot team to reach the League Phase.
It was a historic night in Limassol as Pafos FC reach League Phase of Champions League, sealing their place after a 2-1 aggregate win over the Serbian champions. Red Star struck first through Ivanić, who found the net on 60 minutes after a deflected effort. The goal reignited the Serbians’ hopes of turning the tie around.
But Pafos stood strong and came close to levelling with efforts from Bruno (83’) and Correia (84’), before changing everything in the 89th minute. Zaza rose high to meet a pinpoint set-piece from Pepe, his thunderous header sparking wild celebrations across the stands. The draw was enough to send Pafos through, following their 1-0 win in Belgrade last week.
