25-year-old arrested in Paphos, over 24kg cannabis

Date:

A 25-year-old woman has been arrested in Paphos after authorities found 24 kilogrammes of cannabis in her luggage during a routine customs check at the airport, police said on Monday.

According to Paphos Police, the arrest took place shortly after 4:30pm on Sunday, following a coordinated operation between the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) and the Customs Department.

The woman, who had just arrived on a flight from a European country, was selected for inspection upon entering Paphos Airport. During the search, customs officers discovered 40 packages containing cannabis, with a total gross weight of 24kg, concealed in her baggage.

She was immediately taken into custody. YKAN is now investigating the case as one of importation and possession of drugs with intent to supply to another person.

Investigations are ongoing under the direction of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit.
