A 24-year-old foreign national was safely rescued after getting into difficulty while swimming in the sea off Limassol early Wednesday morning.
The incident happened at around 6.30 am in the LEM 15 sea area, opposite the GSZ.
The man, who was visiting Cyprus for the first time, attempted to swim towards the rocks despite having limited experience in the sea. During the attempt, he began struggling and called for help.
Lifeguards respond by jet ski
Lifeguards stationed at the LEM 15 tower immediately noticed the danger and rushed to the scene on a rescue jet ski.
A nearby swimmer also went to help the 24-year-old and stayed with him until the rescuers arrived.
When the lifeguards reached the man, he could no longer touch the seabed, making the rescue particularly urgent.
The rescuers safely lifted him onto a rescue board and brought him back to shore.
Swimmer in good condition
After being brought ashore, the 24-year-old was found to be in good condition and did not require further medical attention.
The LEM 15 tower is one of two lifeguard stations in Limassol staffed from 6 am to 8 pm.
The extended hours provide early morning coverage and additional safety for swimmers.
