Police are investigating a kidnapping case involving a 22-year-old man from Larnaca following a complaint filed by his flatmate shortly before 1 am on Friday.

According to information under investigation, the 22-year-old foreign student left his residence at around 6.30 pm on Thursday to begin his first day of work at a factory in an unknown location.

Authorities said the young man has not returned home since leaving for work.

Father receives ransom demands

Later on Thursday evening, the 22-year-old’s father, who lives abroad, reportedly received a phone call from an unknown individual, as well as text messages demanding money in exchange for his son’s release.

The alleged ransom demands prompted concerns that the student may have been abducted.

The kidnapping case is being treated as a serious matter, with investigators working to establish the circumstances surrounding the man’s disappearance.

Police investigation ongoing

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Larnaca is leading the investigation and examining all available evidence.

Police have not released further details regarding the identity of the caller, the amount of money demanded, or the location where the alleged victim may be held.
