21-year-old rescued from drowning in Limassol

A rescue operation prevented a potential drowning after a 21-year-old man got into difficulty near the breakwaters in the LEM0 area, close to Limassol Municipal Gardens.

According to the Limassol Lifeguard Unit, the incident occurred at around 1:40pm on Saturday, 13 June 2026.

The rescue marks the second incident of its kind in the same area within the space of a week.

Quick response prevents tragedy

The 21-year-old had gone onto the breakwaters when he found himself in danger of drowning.

Lifeguards from the LEM0 station responded immediately and reached the scene in time to carry out the rescue.

After receiving the necessary first aid, the young man’s condition was reported to be good.

Previous rescue victim recovering well

The Limassol Lifeguard Unit also provided an update on a 25-year-old swimmer who was rescued in the same area on Sunday, 7 June 2026.

Following communication with the General Hospital of Limassol, lifeguards were informed that the young man is in very good health and recovering well.

Public urged to follow safety advice

The Lifeguard Unit reminded the public to exercise particular caution when visiting breakwaters and to follow the instructions of lifeguards at all times.

Officials stressed that adherence to safety guidance can help prevent serious incidents and save lives.
