A tragic crash in Skarinou claimed the life of 61-year-old Christakis Siailos during a motorcycle outing on Sunday morning.
According to police investigations, a group of ten motorcyclists was travelling on the motorway at around 8:30am when the fatal incident occurred.
The 61-year-old rider, who was travelling near the back of the group, reportedly attempted to avoid a dog that was on the road after being struck by a passing vehicle. He then appears to have lost control of his motorcycle and was thrown onto the carriageway.
Second motorcyclist involved
Police said the rider travelling behind him was unable to react in time and struck the 61-year-old as he lay on the road.
Officers and paramedics rushed to the scene and provided assistance, but the motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries.
The remains under investigation.
Funeral to take place on Tuesday
The death of Christakis Siailos has caused deep sorrow among relatives, friends and loved ones, who will pay their final respects on Tuesday.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00pm at Saint Charalambos Church in Geri.
Family members will receive condolences at the church from 2:30pm, while the burial will take place at the Geri Municipal Cemetery.
The family has asked that donations be made in support of the 61-year-old’s family in lieu of wreaths.
