The Pancyprian Urban Taxis Union (POAT) begins a 24-hour strike from 6:00am Tuesday to 6:00am Wednesday, with Larnaca Airport taxi drivers gathering in the car park since morning.
Larnaca POAT Branch President Konstantinos Magdalinidis told CNA that last week’s four-hour work strike exhausted “every margin for dialogue”.
No response to legality plea
“Regrettably, there was no response even to our obvious demand for legality,” Magdalinidis said, adding the POAT taxi strike marks the start of intensified actions.
“We proceed with a 24-hour strike now with pan-Cypriot scope,” he continued. “We take not half a step back.”
Exclusive demand: Legality and justice
POAT demands “exclusively legality and justice. Nothing more, nothing less.”
Yesterday’s announcement followed the 13 January four-hour strike, noting no action from involved parties.
Escalation looms without progress
POAT warns of indefinite strike from 27 January if ignored again.
Meeting points include Larnaca and Paphos Airports, and Germasogeia River car park in Limassol.
