A school guard has been hospitalised following a violent Ypsonas school attack involving gas canisters. The incident occurred overnight at the 3rd Primary School of Ypsonas, according to SigmaLive’s correspondent in Limassol.
A group of young men reportedly entered the school grounds and attacked the guard as he attempted to remove them from the mini football pitch, which had recently been created by the school board and the Municipality of Kouris. The perpetrators allegedly threw a lit gas canister at the guard’s face, causing second-degree burns. He was immediately transferred to hospital for treatment.
Speaking to SigmaLive, the school board president of the 3rd Primary School of Ypsonas, Christina Tryphonas, condemned the incident: “The nightly vandalism of schools in western Limassol continues, culminating in last night’s episode. Young men chased the guard and threw lit gas canisters at him. He now has facial burns. We are fighting tooth and nail to protect our schools. This is a social problem and soon we will mourn victims.”
Authorities are investigating the Ypsonas school attack as incidents of vandalism and violence at schools in the Limassol district intensify.
