A fatal road collision in Limassol occurred early in the morning of Sunday, 23 of November, resulting in the death of 20-year-old Ahmad Al Matar from Syria, according to police.
The fatal road collision in Limassol happened at around 1.30am on 28th October Avenue, when a 26-year-old driver collided with the bicycle ridden by the young man. Police reported that the car then struck another vehicle driven by a 48-year-old woman, before stopping in the central reservation.
The 20-year-old was injured and taken by ambulance to Limassol General Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death. The other two drivers were not injured in the incident. Police said the 26-year-old driver was tested for alcohol, with a final reading of 49μg% instead of the permitted 22μg%, and also underwent a preliminary drug test, which returned a positive indication.
He was arrested and taken into custody. The suspect appeared before Limassol District Court today, which issued a six-day remand order. Police added that the investigation into the fatal road collision in Limassol is ongoing, and the Traffic Department is continuing examinations.
